✧ Bashīr—whose name was Zaḥm b. Maʿbad—emigrated to the Prophet ﷺ and he said: “What is your name?” He said: “Zaḥm.” He said: “Rather, you are Bashīr.” He said: “While I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he passed by the graves of the polytheists and said: ‘These have gone ahead with much good’ three times. Then he passed by the graves of the Muslims and said: ‘These have attained much good’ three times. Then the Prophet ﷺ happened to glance and saw a man walking among the graves wearing two sandals. He said: ‘O owner of the two sandals, throw off your two sandals.’ The man looked, and when he saw the Prophet ﷺ, he took off his sandals and threw them away.”
