When one hears a thunder-clap

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الْحَكَمُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عِكْرِمَةُ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ كَانَ إِذَا

سَمِعَ صَوْتَ الرَّعْدِ قَالَ سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَبَّحْتَ لَهُ قَالَ إِنَّ الرَّعْدَ مَلَكٌ يَنْعِقُ بِالْغَيْثِ كَمَا يَنْعِقُ الرَّاعِي بِغَنَمِهِ

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Ibn Abbas (ra) made this supplication when he heard a cloud burst:

✧ When he heard the sound of thunder, he said: “Glory be to the One whom you glorify.” He said: “Thunder is an angel who drives the rain clouds with a shout, just as a shepherd drives his sheep with a shout.”
