Supplication during lightning

حَدَّثَنَا مُعَلَّى بْنُ أَسَدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو مَطَرٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَالِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ
عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا سَمِعَ الرَّعْدَ وَالصَّوَاعِقَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَقْتُلْنَا بِصَعْقِكَ وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ
Translation
Chain of narrators
- It is reported by Salim bin Abdullah on the authority of his father (Abdullah bin Umar (ra)) that when the prophet (ﷺ) heard a thunder-clap or a thunder-bolt, he would make this supplication:
✧ From his father: When the Prophet ﷺ heard thunder and thunderbolts, he would say: “O Allah, do not kill us with Your thunderbolt, do not destroy us with Your punishment, and grant us well-being before that.”
