✧ I heard Bajala telling Abu al-Shatha and Amr b. Aws, in the year Musab b. al-Zubayr performed Hajj, while he was beside the steps of Zamzam: I was a scribe for Jazʾ b. Muawiya, the uncle of al-Ahnaf. Umar came to him a year before his death: Kill every sorcerer, separate every Mahram among the Magians, and forbid them from zamzama. He said: So we killed three sorceresses, and we began separating a woman and her female relative in the Book of God. He made much food and invited the Magians, and laid the sword on his thigh, and they threw down a mule-load or two mule-loads of silver, and they ate without zamzama. He said: Umar had not taken jizya from the Magians until Abd al-Rahman b. Awf informed him that the Messenger of God ﷺ had taken it from the Magians of Hajar.
