حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ. أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ:
نَظَرْتُ إِلَى أَقْدَامِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ عَلَى رُؤُوسِنَا وَنَحْنُ فِي الْغَارِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لَوْ أَنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ نَظَرَ إِلَى قَدَمَيْهِ أَبْصَرَنَا تَحْتَ قَدَمَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ، مَا ظَنُّكَ بِاثْنَيْنِ اللهُ ثَالِثُهُمَا

✧ I looked at the feet of the polytheists above our heads while we were in the cave, and I said: O Messenger of God, if one of them looked at his feet, he would see us beneath his feet. He said: O Abu Bakr, what do you think of two when God is the third of them?
