✧ O assembly of women, I have not seen any among those deficient in intellect and religion who more captivate the hearts of intelligent men than you. I have seen that you are the majority of the people of the Fire on the Day of Resurrection, so draw near to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, with whatever you can. Among the women was the wife of 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud. She went to 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud and told him what she had heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and she took some jewelry of hers. Ibn Mas'ud said: 'Where are you going with this jewelry?' She said: 'I seek to draw near to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and His Messenger ﷺ with it, so that Allah may not make me one of the people of the Fire.' He said: 'Come here, woe to you, give it in charity to me and my children, for we are more deserving of it.' She said: 'No, by Allah, until I take it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' She went to seek permission to see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they said: 'This is Zaynab seeking permission, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Which Zaynab is she?' They said: 'The wife of 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud.' He said: 'Give her permission.' She entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I heard a statement from you, and I returned to Ibn Mas'ud and told him. I took some jewelry to draw near to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and to you with it, hoping that Allah will not make me one of the people of the Fire. Ibn Mas'ud said to me: Give it in charity to me and my children, for we are more deserving of it. I said: Until I ask permission of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Give it in charity to his children and to him, for they are more deserving of it.' Then she said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what about what I heard from you when you stood before us: I have not seen any among those deficient in intellect and religion who more captivate the hearts of intelligent men than you? O Messenger of Allah, what is the deficiency in our religion and our intellect?' He said: 'As for what I mentioned about the deficiency in your religion, it is the menstruation that afflicts you. One of you remains as long as Allah wills without praying or fasting, and that is the deficiency in your religion. As for what I mentioned about the deficiency in your intellect, it is that the testimony of a woman is half of a testimony.'
