Translation

✧ The sun eclipsed, and the Messenger of God ﷺ prayed with the people. He stood for a long time, about the length of Surah al-Baqarah. Then he bowed for a long time. Then he raised his head and stood for a long time, but shorter than the first standing. Then he bowed, but shorter than the first bowing. Then he prostrated. Then he stood and did the same in the second rak'ah, but his standing in it was shorter than the first standing, and his bowing and prostration were shorter than what he had done in the first rak'ah. Then he turned away, and the sun had become clear. Then he said: 'The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of God Almighty. They do not eclipse for the death of anyone or for his life. So when you see that, remember God.' They said: 'O Messenger of God, we saw you reach for something from this place of yours, then we saw you draw back.' He said: 'I was shown Paradise—or I saw Paradise—and I reached for a bunch of grapes from it. If I had taken it, you would have eaten from it as long as the world remains. And I saw the Fire, and I have never seen a sight like today. I saw that most of its inhabitants were women.' It was said: 'Why, O Messenger of God?' He said: 'Because of their ingratitude.' It was said: 'Do they disbelieve in God?' He said: 'They are ungrateful to their husbands and ungrateful for kindness. If you were to be kind to one of them for a lifetime, and then she saw something from you, she would say: I have never seen any good from you.'
