حَدَّثَنَا سَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ بِالطَّوَّافِ، وَلَا بِالَّذِي تَرُدُّهُ اللُّقْمَةُ، وَلَا اللُّقْمَتَانِ، وَلَا التَّمْرَةُ وَلَا التَّمْرَتَانِ، وَلَكِنَّ الْمِسْكِينَ الْمُتَعَفِّفُ الَّذِي لَا يَسْأَلُ النَّاسَ شَيْئًا، وَلَا يُفْطَنُ لَهُ فَيُتَصَدَّقَ عَلَيْهِ

Translation

✧ The miskin is not the one who goes around, nor the one who is turned away by a morsel or two morsels, nor by a date or two dates. Rather, the miskin is the one who restrains himself, who does not ask people for anything, and who is not recognized so that he may be given charity.
