حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:

يَعْقِدُ الشَّيْطَانُ عَلَى قَافِيَةِ رَأْسِ أَحَدِكُمْ ثَلَاثَ عُقَدٍ، فَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ فَذَكَرَ اللهَ انْحَلَّتْ عُقْدَةٌ، فَإِذَا تَوَضَّأَ انْحَلَّتْ عُقْدَتَانِ، فَإِذَا صَلَّى انْحَلَّتِ الْعُقَدُ، وَإِلَّا أَصْبَحَ خَبِيثَ النَّفْسِ كَسْلَانَ

Translation

✧ Satan ties three knots on the back of the head of any one of you when he sleeps. For each knot he strikes: 'You have a long night ahead, so sleep.' If he wakes up and remembers God, one knot is untied. If he performs ablution, a second knot is untied. If he prays, the knots are all untied. Otherwise, he wakes up foul in spirit and lazy.
