حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْفَزَارِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَزْهَرُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ الْكَاهِلِيُّ، عَنِ الْخَضِرِ بْنِ الْقَوَّاسِ الْبَجَلِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سُخَيْلَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَلِيٌّ:

أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِأَفْضَلِ آيَةٍ فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا بِهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَمَا أَصَابَكُمْ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُو عَنْ كَثِيرٍ، وَقَالَ ﷺ: وَسَأُفَسِّرُهَا لَكَ يَا عَلِيُّ، مَا أَصَابَكَ مِنْ مَرَضٍ، أَوْ عُقُوبَةٍ، أَوْ بَلَاءٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ، وَاللهُ أَكْرَمُ مِنْ أَنْ يُثَنِّيَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْعُقُوبَةَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ، وَمَا عَفَا اللهُ عَنْهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَاللهُ أَجَلُّ أَنْ يَعُودَ بَعْدَ عَفْوِهِ

✧ Shall I not inform you of the best verse in the Book of God, which the Messenger of God ﷺ narrated to us: 'Whatever misfortune befalls you is because of what your own hands have earned, and He pardons much.' And he ﷺ said: 'I will explain it to you, O Ali: whatever befalls you of illness, punishment, or trial in this world is because of what your hands have earned. God is too generous to repeat the punishment for you in the Hereafter. Whatever God pardons in this world, God is too majestic to return to it after His pardon.'
