حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ رُكَانَةَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ:
دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ بَيْتَهُ، وَقَدْ بَالَ، فَدَعَا بِوَضُوءٍ، فَجِئْنَاهُ بِعُسٍّ يَمْلَأُ الْمُدَّ، أَوْ قَرِيبَهُ، حَتَّى وُضِعَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: أَلَا أَتَوَضَّأُ لَكَ وُضُوءَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قُلْتُ: بَلَى، فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي، قَالَ: فَوُضِعَ لَهُ الْإِنَاءُ، فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ مَضْمَضَ، وَاسْتَنْشَقَ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدَيْهِ فَصَكَّ بِهِمَا فِي وَجْهِهِ، وَالْتَقَمَ إِبْهَامَاهُ مَا أَقْبَلَ مِنْ أُذُنَيْهِ، ثُمَّ أَعَادَ بِمِثْلِ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ كَفًّا مِنْ مَاءٍ بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى فَأَفْرَغَهَا عَلَى نَاصِيَتِهِ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَهَا تَسْتَنُّ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ، ثُمَّ غَسَلَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى إِلَى الْمِرْفَقِ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ يَدَهُ الْأُخْرَى مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ مِنْ ظُهُورِهِمَا، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِكَفَّيْهِ مِنَ الْمَاءِ فَصَكَّ بِهِمَا عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ وَفِيهِمَا النَّعْلُ، ثُمَّ قَلَبَهَا، ثُمَّ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، قُلْتُ: فِي النَّعْلَيْنِ ؟ قَالَ: فِي النَّعْلَيْنِ، ثَلَاثًا

✧ I entered upon Ali in his house, and he had urinated. He called for water for ablution, and we brought him a large cup that held a mudd or close to it, until it was placed before him. He said: Shall I perform ablution for you as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did? I said: Yes, may my father and mother be your ransom. He said: The vessel was placed for him, and he washed his hands, then rinsed his mouth and inhaled water into his nose. Then he took water with his hands and splashed it onto his face, and his thumbs caught what was before his ears. Then he repeated the like of that three times. Then he took a handful of water with his right hand and poured it over his forelock, then let it run down over his face. Then he washed his right hand to the elbow three times, and his other hand likewise. Then he wiped his head and his ears from their backs. Then he took water with both palms and splashed it onto his feet while he had on his sandals, then turned them over, and then did the same to the other foot. I said: In the sandals? He said: In the sandals, three times.
