✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood at ʿArafah and said, 'This is ʿArafah, and this is the standing place; all of ʿArafah is a standing place.' Then he departed when the sun had set, placing Usama behind him on his mount, and he proceeded at his own unhurried pace while the people were striking right and left, not turning toward them, and he was saying, 'O people, you must be calm.' Then he came to Muzdalifah and prayed the two prayers with them together. When morning came, he came to Quzah and stood upon it, saying, 'This is Quzah, and this is the standing place; all of Muzdalifah is a standing place.' Then he departed, and when he reached the valley of Muhassir, he urged his she-camel on, and she quickened her pace until he crossed the valley. He stopped and placed al-Fadl behind him, then came to the Jamrah and threw the pebbles. Then he came to the place of sacrifice and said, 'This is the place of sacrifice, and all of Mina is a place of sacrifice.' A young woman from Khathʿam asked him for a ruling, saying, 'My father is an old man who has become senile, and the obligation of Allah in the Hajj has overtaken him; will it suffice for me to perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said, 'Perform Hajj on behalf of your father.' He turned al-Fadl's neck away, and al-ʿAbbas said to him, 'Why did you turn the neck of your cousin?' He said, 'I saw a young man and a young woman, and I did not feel safe from Satan concerning them.' A man came and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I departed from ʿArafah before shaving my head.' He said, 'Shave or shorten, and there is no harm.' Another man came and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I slaughtered before throwing the pebbles.' He said, 'Throw, and there is no harm.' Then he came to the House and circumambulated it, then came to Zamzam and said, 'O Banu ʿAbd al-Muttalib, your water-giving; were it not that the people would overcome you, I would draw water with you.'
