Chain of narrators
  1. ʿAbdullāh

✧ I was a young boy, and I used to tend sheep for Ibn Abi Mu'ayt. The Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr came, having fled from the idolaters. They said: 'O boy, do you have any milk to give us to drink?' I said: 'Yes, but I am entrusted, and I am not going to give you drink.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Do you have a young ewe that no male has mounted?' I said: 'Yes.' I brought it to him. The Messenger of God ﷺ hobbled it, wiped the udder, and supplicated, and the milk began to flow. Abu Bakr brought him a hollowed-out rock, and he milked into it and drank, and Abu Bakr drank, and I drank. Then he said to the udder: 'Contract,' and it contracted. Later I came to him and said: 'O Messenger of God, teach me some of this speech—or this Qur'an.' He said: 'You are a taught boy.' But he taught me, and I took from his mouth seventy surahs that no one disputes with me about.
