Show the chain

machine translationAbū Zayd is unknown (majhūl); no narration is known from him other than this hadith.

  • Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī

machine translationThey declared it weak (ḍaʿīf) only because among its narrators is Abū Zayd, who is an unknown man (majhūl); no narration is known from him other than this hadith.

machine translationThis chain of transmission was confused by Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Shaqarī from Sharīk, and I do not know whether it came from him or from Sharīk. For a group, such as al-Thawrī, Isrāʾīl, ʿAmr b. Abī Qays and others, narrated it from Abū Fazārah, from Abū Zayd, the freed slave of ʿAmr b. Ḥurayth, from Ibn Masʿūd. This is the correct narration. Abū Zayd is an unknown man (majhūl), and the hadith is weak (ḍaʿīf) because of him.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationThis hadith is not strong (qawī), because none narrated it except Abū Fazārah from Abū Zayd, and Ḥammād b. Salamah from ʿAlī b. Zayd from Abū Rāfiʿ from Ibn Masʿūd. ʿAlī b. Zayd is not strong (qawī), and Abū Zayd is an unknown shaykh who is not known. ʿAlqamah said: ʿAbd Allāh was not with the Prophet ﷺ on the night of the jinn, and I wish he had been with him. It was said: Muʿāwiyah b. Sallām narrates from his brother, from his grandfather, from Ibn Ghaylān, from Ibn Masʿūd. He said: This too is nothing; Ibn Ghaylān is unknown (majhūl), and nothing sound is established on this topic.

machine translationAbū Fazārah Rāshid b. Kaysān narrates it from him. It was narrated from Abū Fazārah by Sufyān al-Thawrī, Isrāʾīl, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ḥumayd al-Ruwāsī (the father of Ḥumayd), Abū al-ʿUmays ʿUtbah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUtbah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Masʿūd, Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid, ʿAmr b. Abī Qays, ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abī Sulaymān, Sharīk, Qays, ʿAlī b. ʿĀbis, Abū Wakīʿ, Layth b. Abī Sulaym, Ṣabāḥ b. Yaḥyā, Mukram and ʿAnbasah b. Saʿīd. They differed about it. Abū al-ʿUmays said: from Abū Fazārah, from Abū Zayd, the freed slave of ʿAmr b. Ḥurayth. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abī Sulaymān said: from Abū Fazārah, from ʿAbd Allāh b. Yazīd b. al-Aṣamm, from Ibn Masʿūd. It was also said: from ʿAbd al-Malik, from Abū Fazārah, from Abū Ḥarāzah, from Ibn Masʿūd. Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Shaqarī said: from Sharīk, from Abū Zāʾidah, from Ibn Masʿūd. Al-Masʿūdī narrated it from Abū Fazārah and said: from ʿAmr b. Ḥurayth, from the Prophet ﷺ. The correct view is the view of al-Thawrī and those who followed him.
