حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، قَالَ:
كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: مَا السُّحْتُ ؟ قَالَ: الرِّشَا، فَقَالَ: فِي الْحُكْمِ ؟ قَالَ: ذَاكَ الْكُفْرُ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: وَمَنْ لَمْ يَحْكُمْ بِمَا أَنْـزَلَ اللهُ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْكَافِرُونَ

✧ I was sitting with Abdullah when a man asked him: What is suht (ill-gotten gain)? He said: Bribes. The man said: In judging? He said: That is disbelief. Then he recited: 'And whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down—those are the disbelievers.'
