✧ The last person to enter Paradise is a man who walks on the bridge, stumbling at times and the Fire scorching him at times. When he turns to it, he says: Praise be to Allah who saved me from you. Allah has given me something He did not give to anyone among the first or the last. Then a tree is raised up for him, and he says: O Lord, bring me near this tree so I may shade myself with its shade and drink from its water. Allah says: O son of Adam, perhaps if I bring you near it, you will ask Me for something else. He makes a covenant with Him not to ask Him, but his Lord knows that he will ask for something else, because he sees what he cannot bear to do without. So Allah brings him near it, and he shades himself with its shade and drinks from its water. Then another tree is raised up for him, more beautiful than that one, and he says: O Lord, bring me near this tree so I may shade myself with its shade and drink from its water. Allah says: O son of Adam, did you not covenant with Me not to ask Me for anything else? He says: Yes, O Lord, but this tree – I will not ask You for anything else. He makes a covenant with Him not to ask Him, but his Lord knows that he will ask for something else, and his Lord excuses him because he sees what he cannot bear to do without. So Allah brings him near it, and he shades himself with its shade and drinks from its water. Then a tree is raised up for him at the gate of Paradise, more beautiful than those first two trees. He says: O Lord, bring me near this tree so I may shade myself with its shade and drink from its water. Allah says: O son of Adam, did you not covenant not to ask Me for anything else? He says: O Lord, bring me near this tree so I may shade myself with its shade and drink from its water. Allah says to him: Perhaps if I bring you near it, you will ask Me for something else. He makes a covenant with Him not to ask Him for anything else, but his Lord knows that he will ask for something else, and his Lord excuses him because he sees what he cannot bear to do without. So He brings him near it, and he hears the voices of the people of Paradise. He says: O Lord, admit me into Paradise. Allah says: Would it please you if I gave you the world and the like of it along with it? He says: O Lord, do You mock me while You are the Lord of the worlds? He said: I do not mock you, but I am Able to do whatever I will.
