✧ We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intending only Hajj. When we were at Sarif—or near it—I menstruated. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me while I was crying and said: “What is the matter with you? Have you menstruated?” I said: “Yes.” He said: “This is a matter that Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam, so perform what the pilgrim performs, except do not circumambulate the House until you bathe.” When we were at Mina, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ slaughtered cows on behalf of his wives.

machine translationSomeone else claimed that this is a mistake on the part of ʿUrwah, and that the correct version is the narration of al-Aswad, al-Qāsim and ʿAmrah from her, that she entered the state of iḥrām for Ḥajj alone (ifrād).

  • Mālik b. Anas
