✧ I was sitting with Ali while he was engaged in some matter concerning the people, when a man came to him wearing travel clothes and said: O Commander of the Faithful. Ali was occupied with his affair, so the man said: I am... I said: What is your concern? He said: I was on Hajj or Umrah—he said: I do not know which of them he said—and I passed by Aishah, and she said: Who are those people who went out before you, called the Haruriyyah? He said: I said: In a place called Harura'. He said: They are therefore called the Haruriyyah. He said: She said: Blessed is the one who witnesses their destruction. She said: By God, if you asked Ibn Abi Talib, he would tell you their story. So from there I came to ask him about that. He said: Ali finished his matter and said: Where is the one seeking permission? The man stood before him and related the same story as he had told me. He said: Ali raised his voice three times, then said: I was with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and no one was with him except Aishah. He said: He said to me: O Ali, how will you be with a people who will go out at such-and-such a place—and he gestured with his hand toward the east—reciting the Quran but it does not pass their throats, or their collarbones? They pass through Islam as an arrow passes through the game. Among them is a man with a deformed hand, as if his hand were the breast of an Abyssinian woman. Then he said: I adjure you by God, besides whom there is no god, did I tell you that he is among them? They said: Yes, so you went and sought him, then you brought him dragging him, as I described to you. He said: Then he said: God and His Messenger spoke the truth, three times.
