✧ Umm Ḥabība bt. Jaḥsh suffered from prolonged bleeding. She had been married to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf for seven years, and she complained about that to the Messenger of God. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'This is not menstruation; it is only a vein. When the menstruation comes, leave the prayer, and when it departs, bathe and pray.' ʿĀʾisha said: She used to bathe for every prayer, and she would sit in a large tub belonging to her sister Zaynab bt. Jaḥsh until the redness of the blood rose above the water.

machine translationThe reports in which she was commanded to perform a ritual bath (ghusl) for every prayer are narrated through several routes, all of them weak (ḍaʿīf).

machine translationThere is much disagreement among the narrators from al-Zuhrī regarding this hadith. At times he narrates it from ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, at times from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah, at times from ʿUrwah and ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, and at times from ʿUrwah from Fāṭimah bint Abī Ḥubaysh. Most of the students of Ibn Shihāb say in it: from ʿUrwah and ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, that Umm Ḥabībah bint Jaḥsh, the in-law of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who was married to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, had irregular bleeding (istuḥīḍat). This is how they report it from Ibn Shihāb in this hadith: Umm Ḥabībah, without mentioning Fāṭimah bint Abī Ḥubaysh. The hadith of Ibn Shihāb on this subject is inconsistent (muḍṭarib).
