حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ:

أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَخْبِرْنِي بِشَهْرٍ أَصُومُهُ بَعْدَ رَمَضَانَ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنْ كُنْتَ صَائِمًا شَهْرًا بَعْدَ رَمَضَانَ، فَصُمِ الْمُحَرَّمَ، فَإِنَّهُ شَهْرُ اللهِ، وَفِيهِ يَوْمٌ تَابَ اللهُ فِيهِ عَلَى قَوْمٍ وَيُتَابُ فِيهِ عَلَى آخَرِينَ

Translation

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a month I should fast after Ramadan.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If you are to fast a month after Ramadan, then fast Muharram, for it is Allah's month. In it is a day on which Allah accepted the repentance of a people, and on it repentance will be accepted for others.'
