حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ:
أَتَى عَلِيًّا، رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَخْبِرْنِي بِشَهْرٍ أَصُومُهُ بَعْدَ رَمَضَانَ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ سَأَلْتَنِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ مَا سَمِعْتُ أَحَدًا سَأَلَ عَنْهُ بَعْدَ رَجُلٍ سَمِعْتُهُ يَسْأَلُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: إِنْ كُنْتَ صَائِمًا شَهْرًا بَعْدَ رَمَضَانَ، فَصُمِ الْمُحَرَّمَ، فَإِنَّهُ شَهْرُ اللهِ، وَفِيهِ يَوْمٌ تَابَ اللهُ فِيهِ عَلَى قَوْمٍ، وَيُتَابُ فِيهِ عَلَى آخَرِينَ
Translation

✧ A man came to Ali and said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, tell me of a month I should fast after Ramadan.' He said, 'You have asked me about something I have not heard anyone ask about after a man I heard ask the Prophet ﷺ. He said to him: If you are to fast a month after Ramadan, then fast Muharram, for it is Allah's month. In it is a day on which Allah accepted the repentance of a people, and on it repentance will be accepted for others.'
