حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: نَا النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ:

سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا، قَالَ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَيُّ شَهْرٍ تَأْمُرُنِي أَنْ أَصُومَ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ؟ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ: مَا سَمِعْتُ أَحَدًا سَأَلَ عَنْ هَذَا بَعْدَ رَجُلٍ سَمِعْتُهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ: أَيُّ شَهْرٍ تَأْمُرُنِي أَنْ أَصُومَ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنْ كُنْتَ صَائِمًا بَعْدَ رَمَضَانَ " فَصُمْ شَهْرَ الْمُحَرَّمِ؛ فَإِنَّهُ شَهْرُ اللهِ، وَفِيهِ تَابَ اللهُ عَلَى قَوْمٍ

Translation

✧ I heard a man say to Ali b. Abi Talib ؓ: O Commander of the Believers, which month do you command me to fast after the month of Ramadan? Ali said: I have not heard anyone ask about this after a man I heard asking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Which month do you command me to fast after the month of Ramadan? He said: If you are fasting after Ramadan, then fast the month of Muharram, for it is Allah's month, and in it Allah relented towards a people.
