حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، وَحُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابَهُ كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ نَحْوَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ، مَرَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ فَنَادَاهُمْ وَهُمْ رُكُوعٌ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ نَحْوَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ: أَلَا إِنَّ الْقِبْلَةَ قَدْ حُوِّلَتْ، فَمَالُوا كَمَا هُمْ، وَهُمْ رُكُوعٌ نَحْوَ الْقِبْلَةِ

Translation

✧ That the Messenger of God ﷺ and his companions used to pray toward Jerusalem. When this verse was revealed: 'Turn your face toward the Sacred Mosque,' a man from the Banu Salimah passed by and called out to them while they were bowing in the dawn prayer toward Jerusalem: Indeed the qiblah has been changed. So they turned as they were, while bowing, toward the qiblah.
