حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِبَقِيعِ الْغَرْقَدِ، فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ يُنَادِي صَاحِبَهُ: يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ! فَالْتَفَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: لَمْ أَعْنِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّمَا عَنَيْتُ فُلَانًا، فَقَالَ: سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ passed by Baqiʿ al-Gharqad, and there was a man calling his companion: “O Abu al-Qasim!” The Prophet ﷺ turned, and the man said: “I did not mean you, O Messenger of God; I meant so-and-so.” He said: “Name yourselves with my name, but do not use my kunya.”
