حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ
وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ غُلَامٌ فَسَمَّاهُ الْقَاسِمَ، فَقَالَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ: وَاللهِ لَا نَكْنِيكَ بِهِ أَبَدًا، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَأَثْنَى عَلَى الْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي.

✧ A boy was born to a man from the Ansar, so he named him al-Qasim. The Ansar said, 'By Allah, we will never give you this kunya (i.e., call him Abu al-Qasim).' That reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he praised the Ansar with good, then said: 'Name yourselves with my name, but do not use my kunya.'
