✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ came in upon me and Fatimah one night and roused us for prayer. He then went back to his house and prayed for a quiet portion of the night, and we did not hear any sound from him. Then he came back to us and roused us, saying: "Get up and pray." I sat up, rubbing my eyes, saying: "By God, we do not pray except what God has decreed for us; our souls are in God's hand, and if He wills to raise us, He raises us." The Messenger of God ﷺ turned away, saying and striking his thigh: "We do not pray except what was decreed for us; we do not pray except what God decreed for us," saying it twice. And man is the most argumentative of all things.
