حَدَّثَنَا عَمَّارٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةٍ لِيُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهَا، قَالَ: هَلْ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ ؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ نَهَانِي أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ، وَقَالَ: إِنَّ صَاحِبَ الدَّيْنِ مُرْتَهَنٌ فِي قَبْرِهِ، حَتَّى يُقْضَى عَنْهُ دَيْنُهُ، فَأَبَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ
Translation

✧ A funeral bier was brought to the Prophet ﷺ for him to pray over it. He said, 'Does he owe a debt?' They said, 'Yes.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Gabriel forbade me to pray over a man who owes a debt. He said: The debtor is held in pledge in his grave until his debt is paid on his behalf.' The Prophet ﷺ refused to pray over him.
