حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ ضَرَبَ عَلَى الْخَمْرِ بِالنِّعَالِ وَالْجَرِيدِ، وَجَلَدَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ بِيَدِهِ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُمَرُ وَدَنَا النَّاسُ مِنَ الْقُرَى وَالرِّيفِ، ذَكَرَ ذَاكَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ: اجْعَلْهَا كَأَخَفِّ الْحُدُودِ، قَالَ: فَجَلَدَ ثَمَانِينَ

✧ The Prophet ﷺ punished for wine with sandals and palm branches, and Abu Bakr lashed with his hand. When it was the time of Umar and people had drawn near to villages and rural areas, he mentioned that to his companions. Abd al-Rahman b. Awf said: "Make it like the lightest of the prescribed punishments." He said: So he lashed eighty.
