حَدَّثَنَا عَمَّارٌ أَيْضًا، حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ الدَّانَاجُ، وَمَطَرٌ الْوَرَّاقُ، كُلُّهُمْ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ:
خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِنْ بَابِ الْبَيْتِ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ الْحُجْرَةَ، فَسَمِعَ قَوْمًا يَتَنَازَعُونَ فِي الْقَدَرِ، وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ: أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللهُ آيَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللهُ آيَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ قَالَ: فَفَتَحَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَابَ الْحُجْرَةِ، فَكَأَنَّمَا فُقِئَ فِي وَجْهِهِ حَبُّ الرُّمَّانِ، فَقَالَ: أَبِهَذَا أُمِرْتُمْ أَوْ بِهَذَا عُنِيتُمْ ؟ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ قَبْلَكُمْ بِأَشْبَاهِ هَذَا، ضَرَبُوا كِتَابَ اللهِ بَعْضَهُ بِبَعْضٍ، أَمَرَكُمُ اللهُ بِأَمْرٍ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ، وَنَهَاكُمْ فَانْتَهُوا، قَالَ: فَلَمْ يَسْمَعِ النَّاسُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ أَحَدًا يَتَكَلَّمُ حَتَّى جَاءَ مَعْبَدٌ الْجُهَنِيُّ فَأَخَذَهُ الْحَجَّاجُ فَقَتَلَهُ
Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ came out of the door of the house while heading to the room, and he heard people disputing about predestination, saying: "Did God not say such-and-such a verse? Did God not say such-and-such a verse?" He said: The Prophet ﷺ opened the door of the room, and it was as if pomegranate seeds had been burst in his face. He said: "Is this what you were commanded, or is this what you were entrusted with? Those before you perished only because of things like this: they struck the Book of God against itself. God commanded you with a matter, so follow it; and He forbade you, so desist." He said: After that, people did not hear anyone speak about it until Ma'bad al-Juhani came, and al-Hajjaj seized him and killed him.
