حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ
أَتَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ، فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَضُرِبَ بِنَعْلَيْنِ أَرْبَعِينَ، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ بِرَجُلٍ قَدْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَصَنَعَ بِهِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ عُمَرُ بِرَجُلٍ قَدْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ، فَاسْتَشَارَ النَّاسَ فِي ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ: أَرَى أَنْ تَجْعَلَهَا أَقَلَّ الْحُدُودِ ثَمَانِينَ، فَضَرَبَهُ عُمَرُ ثَمَانِينَ

✧ A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ having drunk wine, so he ordered him to be flogged with two sandals forty times. Then a man who had drunk wine was brought to Abu Bakr, and he did the same to him. Then a man who had drunk wine was brought to Umar, and he consulted the people about it. Abd al-Rahman b. Awf said, "I think you should make it the minimum of the prescribed punishments: eighty." So Umar flogged him eighty times.
