حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا رُفِعَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَدْ سَكِرَ، فَأَمَرَ قَرِيبًا مِنْ عِشْرِينَ رَجُلًا، فَضَرَبُوهُ بِالْجَرِيدِ وَالنِّعَالِ، ثُمَّ رُفِعَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَدْ سَكِرَ فَجَلَدَهُ أَرْبَعِينَ، فَلَمَّا وَلِيَ عُمَرُ وَأَدْمَنَ النَّاسُ فِي الْخَمْرِ، فَاسْتَشَارَ النَّاسَ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ: أَرَى أَنْ تَجْعَلَهُ... وَانْقَطَعَ عَلَى أَبِي يَعْلَى حَرْفٌ، أَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ: ثَمَانِينَ

Translation

✧ A man who had become drunk was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he ordered about twenty men, who struck him with palm branches and sandals. Then a drunk man was brought to Abu Bakr, and he flogged him forty lashes. When Umar took charge and people became addicted to wine, he consulted the people, and Abd al-Rahman said: I think you should make it... And the text broke off for Abu Yala at one word, I believe he said: eighty.
