Show the chain

✧ "I saw my Lord in the most beautiful form. He said to me: 'O Muhammad.' I said: 'At Your service and at Your command.' He said: 'In what does the Highest Assembly dispute?' I said: 'Lord, I do not know.' So He placed His hand on my shoulder and I felt its coolness between my breasts, and I learned what is between the east and the west. Then He said: 'O Muhammad, in what does the Highest Assembly dispute?' I said: 'In the expiations: walking on foot to the Friday prayers, performing ablution thoroughly in adverse conditions, and waiting for the prayer after the prayer until the next prayer. Whoever maintains these lives well and dies well, and becomes free from his sins like the day his mother gave birth to him.'"

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationThere is disagreement about it on the authority of Qatādah. Yūsuf b. ʿAṭiyyah al-Ṣaffār narrated it from Qatādah from Anas, and he erred in it. Hishām narrated it from Qatādah from Abū Qilābah from Khālid b. al-Lajlāj from Ibn ʿAbbās, and he erred in saying Ibn ʿAbbās. The preserved (maḥfūẓ) version is that Khālid b. al-Lajlāj narrated it from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿĀʾish, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿĀʾish did not hear it from the Prophet ﷺ; rather he narrated from Mālik b. Yukhāmir from Muʿādh b. Jabal.
