حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:

قَالَ لِي الْعَبَّاسُ: بِتْ بِآلِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَاحْفَظْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَتَقَدَّمَ إِلَى أَنْ لَا تَنَامَ حَتَّى تَحْفَظَ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: فَصَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْعِشَاءَ وَخَرَجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ حَتَّى لَمْ يَبْقَ فِيهِ أَحَدٌ غَيْرِي، قَالَ: فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: مَنْ هَذَا عَبْدُ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: مَا لَكَ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ أَمَرَنِي الْعَبَّاسُ أَنْ أَبِيتَ بِكُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ، قَالَ: فَانْطَلِقْ إِذًا، قَالَ: افْرُشْهَا عَبْدَ اللهِ، قَالَ: فَأَتَيْتُ بِوِسَادَةٍ مِنْ مُسُوحٍ حَشْوُهَا لِيفٌ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ لَيْسَتَا بِطَوِيلَتَيْنِ وَلَا قَصِيرَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ أَتَى فِرَاشَهُ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ غَطِيطَهُ، أَوْ خَطِيطَهُ، ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَقَرَأَ: إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ حَتَّى خَتَمَ السُّورَةَ، ثُمَّ مَسَحَ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَبَالَ، ثُمَّ اسْتَنَّ بِسِوَاكِهِ، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ لَيْسَتَا بِطَوِيلَتَيْنِ وَلَا قَصِيرَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَنَامَ، حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ غَطِيطَهُ أَوْ خَطِيطَهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ، وَفَعَلَ كَمَا فَعَلَ فِي الْمَرَّةِ الْأُولَى، ثُمَّ مَسَحَ ثَلَاثًا، وَقَرَأَ الْآيَاتِ مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ آلِ عِمْرَانَ: إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ حَتَّى خَتَمَ السُّورَةَ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَاسْتَنَّ بِسِوَاكِهِ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ لَيْسَتَا بِطَوِيلَتَيْنِ وَلَا قَصِيرَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَنَامَ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ غَطِيطَهُ أَوْ خَطِيطَهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَفَعَلَ كَمَا فَعَلَ فِي الْمَرَّتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ، فَصَلَّى سِتَّ رَكَعَاتٍ ثُمَّ أَوْتَرَ بِثَلَاثٍ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِي فِي بَصَرِي نُورًا، وَفِي سَمْعِي نُورًا، وَفِي قَلْبِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ أَمَامِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ خَلْفِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ فَوْقِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ تَحْتِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَسَارِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ لِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ نُورًا، وَأَعْظِمْ لِي نُورًا

✧ Al-‘Abbas said to me: “Spend the night with the family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and observe the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. And make sure you do not sleep until you have observed the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” He said: The Prophet ﷺ prayed ‘Isha' and left the mosque until no one remained in it except me. He said: The Prophet ﷺ looked at me and said: “Who is this? ‘Abd Allah?” He said: I said: “Yes.” He said: “What is the matter with you?” He said: I said: “Al-‘Abbas commanded me to spend the night with you.” He said: “Go then.” He said: “Spread it out, ‘Abd Allah.” He said: I brought a cushion of coarse cloth stuffed with palm fiber. He said: Then the Prophet ﷺ came forward and prayed two rak‘ahs, neither long nor short. Then he went to his bed and I heard his snoring or his breathing. Then he woke up and recited: “Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day” until he completed the surah. Then he wiped three times. Then he got up and urinated. Then he cleaned his teeth with his siwak. Then he performed ablution. Then he stood and prayed two rak‘ahs, neither long nor short. Then he returned to his bed and slept until I heard his snoring or his breathing. Then he woke up, sat up on his bed, and did as he had done the first time. Then he wiped three times, and recited the verses from the end of Surah Al ‘Imran: “Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day” until he completed the surah. Then he got up, cleaned his teeth with his siwak, performed ablution, then prayed two rak‘ahs, neither long nor short. Then he returned to his bed and slept until I heard his snoring or his breathing. Then he woke up and did as he had done the first two times. He prayed six rak‘ahs, then performed witr with three. Then he prayed the two rak‘ahs before Fajr. When he finished his prayer, he said: “O Allah, place light in my sight, light in my hearing, light in my heart, light before me, light behind me, light above me, light below me, light on my right, light on my left, and grant me light on the Day of Resurrection, and magnify light for me.”
