حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ:

كَانَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ يَسْدِلُونَ أَشْعَارَهُمْ وَكَانَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ يَفْرُقُونَ رُؤُوسَهُمْ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُعْجِبُهُ مُوَافَقَةُ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فِي بَعْضِ مَا لَمْ يُؤْمَرْ فِيهِ، فَسَدَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَاصِيَتَهُ، ثُمَّ فَرَقَ بَعْدُ

✧ The People of the Book used to let their hair hang down, and the polytheists used to part their hair, and the Messenger of God ﷺ liked to agree with the People of the Book in some things about which he had not been commanded, so the Messenger of God ﷺ let his forelock hang down, then he parted it afterwards.
