✧ He came to visit al-Muqannaʿ b. Sinān, who was the maternal uncle of ʿĀṣim, the brother of his mother. He greeted him while he was wearing a cloak and a waist-wrapper, and his sight had been affected. He said, "What are you complaining of?" after touching his head and beard with some yellow dye. He said, "An abscess that has kept me from sleeping and made me sleepless." Jābir said, "O boy, call a cupper for us." Al-Muqannaʿ said, "What will you do with the cupper, O Abū ʿAbd Allāh?" He said, "I want to apply a cupping glass to it." He said, "May God forgive you. By God, if a garment touches me or a fly lands on me it hurts me." When he saw his alarm at that, he began to narrate to us from the Messenger of God ﷺ saying, "The Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'If there is good in any of your remedies—or if there is any—it is in a cupping incision, or a drink of honey, or a cauterization by fire that suits the ailment, but I do not like to be cauterized.'" Then he called the cupper and had the cupping glass applied to his abscess. When it reached [the end of] his eyebrow, he incised it with a scalpel he had with him, and God, blessed and exalted, removed the harm that was in it, and he was healed.
