✧ Before the Hawazin there was a large man on a red camel, in his hand a black banner; whenever he caught up, he thrust with it, and whenever something escaped him in front, he pushed it from behind and ran it through. Ali b. Abi Talib and a man from the Ansar both made for him, each wanting him. He said: Ali struck the camel's two hocks and it fell on its rear. He said: The Ansari struck its leg. He said: It flung the man's foot with half his lower leg and he fell, and the people fought. And when the defeat occurred, Kalada — who was the brother of Safwan b. Umayya and was on that day a polytheist during the term that the Messenger of God ﷺ had set for him — came out saying: Indeed magic is void today! Safwan said to him: Be quiet, may God break your mouth! For by God, that a man of Quraysh should lord over me is dearer to me than that a man of Hawazin should lord over me.
