حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ: قَالَ الْبَرَاءُ بْنُ عَازِبٍ:

مَاتَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُمْ يَشْرَبُونَ الْخَمْرَ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ تَحْرِيمُهَا قَالَ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ: وَكَيْفَ بِأَصْحَابِنَا الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا وَهُمْ يَشْرَبُونَهَا ؟ فَنَزَلَتْ لَيْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ جُنَاحٌ فِيمَا طَعِمُوا إِذَا مَا اتَّقَوْا وَآمَنُوا

Translation

✧ Some people among the companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ died while they were drinking wine. When its prohibition came down, some people among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ said: 'But what about our companions who died while they were drinking it?' Then came down: 'There is no blame on those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they consumed, if they fear [God], believe, and do righteous deeds.'
