✧ I was the cupbearer of the people on the day it was forbidden in the house of Abu Talhah, and their drink was nothing but fadikh: unripe dates and dried dates. Then a caller called out: 'Indeed wine has been forbidden.' He said: So it flowed in the streets of Madinah. Abu Talhah said: 'Go out and pour it out.' He said: So I poured it out. Then they said - or some of them said: 'So-and-so was killed and so-and-so was killed while it was in their bellies' - and I do not know whether this is from the hadith of Anas. He said: Then Allah revealed: 'There is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they have eaten' - the verse.
