✧ I was in the mosque praying when the Messenger of God ﷺ entered with Abu Bakr and ʿUmar. I was reciting Surah al-Nisa, and I read it. When I finished I sat down, and began praising God and invoking blessings on the Prophet ﷺ, then I supplicated for myself. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: Ask and you will be given. Then he said: Whoever would love to recite the Quran fresh, let him recite it as Ibn Umm ʿAbd recites it. He said: Then I returned home, and Abu Bakr came to me and said: Do you remember anything of what you were supplicating? I said: Yes—O God, I ask You for faith that does not turn back, and bliss that does not run out, and the companionship of our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the highest garden of eternity. Then ʿUmar went to Abdullah to give him the good news, but found Abu Bakr already outside, having beaten him to it, and he said: If you did that, you are indeed foremost in good.
