حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ:
خَطَبَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ النَّاسَ بِالْجَابِيَةِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَامَ فِي مِثْلِ مَقَامِي هَذَا، فَقَالَ: أَحْسِنُوا إِلَى أَصْحَابِي، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ، حَتَّى يَحْلِفَ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى الْيَمِينِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَحْلَفَ، وَيَشْهَدَ عَلَى الشَّهَادَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَشْهَدَ عَلَيْهَا، فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَنَالَ مِنْكُمْ بُحْبُوحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ، وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ، أَلَا لَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ، فَإِنَّ ثَالِثُهُمَا الشَّيْطَانَ، أَلَا وَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ تَسُوؤُهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ وَتَسُرُّهُ حَسَنَتُهُ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ

✧ Umar b. al-Khattab addressed the people at al-Jabiya and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood in a place like this one of mine and said: Be good to my Companions, then to those who follow them, then to those who follow them. Then lying will spread until a man swears an oath before being asked to swear and testifies before being asked to testify. Whoever among you loves to attain the spaciousness of Paradise, let him adhere to the community, for Satan is with the solitary individual and is farther from two. Indeed, let no man be alone with a woman, for Satan is the third of them. Indeed, whoever among you is grieved by his evil deeds and pleased by his good deeds is a believer.
