Chain of narrators
- Abū Salamah
✧ We discussed the Night of Qadr among a group of Quraysh. I went to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who was a friend of mine, and said: "Will you not come out with us to the palm groves?" He came out wearing a striped cloak. I said to him: "Did you hear the Messenger of God ﷺ mention the Night of Qadr?" He said: "Yes. We performed i'tikaf with the Messenger of God ﷺ during the middle ten days of Ramadan. We came out on the morning of the twentieth, and the Messenger of God ﷺ delivered a sermon to us, saying: 'I was shown the Night of Qadr, but I was made to forget it—or: I forgot it—so seek it in the last ten nights on the odd nights. And I saw that I was prostrating in water and mud. Whoever performed i'tikaf with the Messenger of God ﷺ should return.' So we returned, and we did not see any cloud in the sky. Then a cloud came and rain fell upon us until the mosque flowed with water—and it was made of palm branches. The prayer was called, and I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ prostrating in water and mud, until I saw the trace of mud on his forehead."
