machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Ibn Jurayj, who said:
✧ I said to 'Ata': 'Does the junub pass [his hand] over everything that is apparent of him?' He said: 'Yes.' A man said to him: 'Does the junub pour water over it?' He said: 'No, rather he washes [it] with a washing; should the junub wash his backside—the way of the privy—on account of janabah?' He said: 'Yes, by Allah, and indeed that is the most deserving of what should be washed of him.' I said: 'Is it not that a man passes excrement and then perfumes himself, then comes and performs wudu' and does not wash his backside?' He said: 'Janabah occurs [only] occasionally, once.'
