Translation
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed Usamah b. Zayd over an army in which were Umar b. al-Khattab and al-Zubayr. The Prophet ﷺ passed away before that army departed. Usamah said to Abu Bakr when allegiance was given to him — and Usamah had not left until allegiance was given to Abu Bakr, so he commanded — he said: 'The Prophet ﷺ dispatched me for what he dispatched me for, and I fear that the Arabs will apostatize. If you wish, I will stay near you until you see.' Abu Bakr said: 'I will not revoke an order the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded. But if you wish to permit Umar, do so.' So he permitted him, and Usamah b. Zayd departed until he reached the place the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had commanded him. He said: Fog enveloped them, so that a man among them could hardly see his companion. They found a man from the people of that region and took him to guide them on the way where they intended, and they raided the place they were commanded. He said: The people heard of that, and some said to others: 'Do you claim that the Arabs have differed, while their cavalry is at such-and-such a place?' He said: By that, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, averted harm from the Muslims. He was called by the command until he died. They say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him and did not remove him until he died.
