✧ What Came Concerning the Digging of Zamzam

قَالَ مَعْمَرٌ: قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ:
وَذَكَرَ هِلَالٌ آبَاءَهُمُ الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا كُفَّارًا فَشَقُّوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَعَادَوْهُ فَلَمَّا أُسْرِيَ بِهِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى أَصْبَحَ النَّاسُ يُخْبِرُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ فَارْتَدَّ أُنَاسٌ مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَدْ صَدَّقَهُ وَآمَنَ بِهِ، وَفُتِنُوا وَكَذَّبُوهُ بِهِ، وَسَعَى رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ: هَذَا صَاحِبُكَ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ مِنْ لَيْلَتِهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: أَوَقَالَ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: فَإِنِّي أَشْهَدُ إِنْ كَانَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ لَقَدْ صَدَقَ فَقَالُوا: أَتُصَدِّقَهُ بِأَنَّهُ جَاءَ الشَّامَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَرَجَعَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ ؟ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: نَعَمْ إِنِّي أُصَدِّقُهُ بِأَبْعَدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أُصَدِّقُهُ بِخَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيًّا فَلِذَلِكَ سُمِّيَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ بِالصِّدِّيقِ.
Translation
✧ And Hilal mentioned their forefathers who died as disbelievers, and they caused hardship to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and showed enmity toward him. When he was taken on the night journey to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, morning came and the people were told that he had been taken on a night journey. Some of those who had believed in him and trusted him apostatized and were put to trial and called him a liar about it. A man from the polytheists went to Abu Bakr and said: "This companion of yours claims that he was taken on a night journey to the Holy House and returned in the same night." Abu Bakr said: "Did he say that?" They said: "Yes." Abu Bakr said: "I bear witness that if he said that, he has spoken the truth." They said: "Do you believe him that he went to Syria in one night and returned before morning?" Abu Bakr said: "Yes, I believe him in something farther than that: I believe him in the news of heaven morning and evening." For that reason Abu Bakr was named al-Siddiq.
