عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ:
أَصَابَ أَمِيرُ الْجَيْشِ - وَهُوَ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ - شَرَابًا فَسَكِرَ، فَقَالَ النَّاسُ لِأَبِي مَسْعُودٍ، وَحُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ: أَقِيمَا عَلَيْهِ الْحَدَّ، فَقَالَا: لَا نَفْعَلُ نَحْنُ بِإِزَاءِ الْعَدُوِّ، وَنَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَعْلَمُوا، فَيَكُونَ جُرْأَةً مِنْهُمْ عَلَيْنَا، وَضَعْفًا بِنَا
Translation
✧ The commander of the army—who was al-Walid b. 'Uqba—drank and became drunk. The people said to Abu Mas'ud and Hudhayfa b. al-Yaman: 'Carry out the hadd punishment on him.' They said: 'We will not do it while we are facing the enemy; we dislike that they learn of it, for it would be boldness from them against us and weakness on our part.'
