عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ بْنِ يُونُسَ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:
كَانَ شُرَحْبِيلُ بْنُ السِّمْطِ عَلَى جَيْشٍ فَقَالَ لِجَيْشِهِ: إِنَّكُمْ نَزَلْتُمْ أَرْضًا كَثِيرَةَ النِّسَاءِ وَالشَّرَابِ - يَعْنِي الْخَمْرَ - فَمَنْ أَصَابَ مِنْكُمْ حَدًّا فَلْيَأْتِنَا، فَنُطَهِّرَهُ، فَأَتَاهُ نَاسٌ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ: أَنْتَ - لَا أُمَّ لَكَ - الَّذِي يَأْمُرُ النَّاسَ أَنْ يَهْتِكُوا سِتْرَ اللهِ الَّذِي سَتَرَهُمْ بِهِ
Translation
✧ Shurahbil b. al-Simt was in command of an army and said to his troops: 'You have camped in a land with many women and much drink—meaning wine—so whoever among you commits an offense deserving a hadd punishment, let him come to us so that we may purify him.' Some people came to him, and this reached 'Umar b. al-Khattab, who wrote to him: 'Are you—may you have no mother—the one who commands the people to tear apart the veil of Allah with which He covered them?'
