✧ The Construction of the Ka'bah

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ:
لَمَّا هُدِمَ الْبَيْتُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، ثُمَّ بَنَوْهُ حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغُوا مَوْضِعَ الرُّكْنِ، خَرَجَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ حَيَّةٌ كَأَنَّ عُنُقَهَا عُنُقُ بَعِيرٍ، فَهَابَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يَدْنُوَ مِنْهَا أَحَدٌ قَالَ: فَجَاءَ طَائِرٌ فَظَلَّلَ نِصْفَ مَكَّةَ فَأَخَذَهَا بِرِجْلِهَا، ثُمَّ حَلَّقَ بِهَا حَتَّى قَذَفَهَا فِي الْبَحْرِ ". قَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ: " وَخَرَجُوا يَوْمًا فِي عِيدٍ لَهُمْ فَنَزَعَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ حَجَرًا، ثُمَّ سَرَقَ مِنْ حِلْيَتِهِ وَتَحَرَّدَ، ثُمَّ عَادَ لِيَسْرِقَ، فَلَصِقَ الْحَجَرَانِ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ، فَأَتَاهُ النَّاسُ وَرَأْسُهُ رَاسٍ فِيهِمَا "
Translation
✧ When the House was demolished in the pre-Islamic era, then they rebuilt it, when they reached the place of the Corner, a snake came out at them, its neck like a camel's neck. The people feared to approach it. He said: 'Then a bird came and shaded half of Makkah, seized it with its talon, then flew off with it until it cast it into the sea.'" Mujahid said: "And one day they went out on one of their festivals, and a man removed a stone from the House, then stole from its ornaments and slipped away. Then he returned to steal again, and the two stones stuck to his head. The people came to him with his head stuck between them."
