✧ The Dabb Lizard

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ،
أَنَّ رَجُلًا كَانَ رَاعِيًا فَشَكَا إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ الْجُوعَ بِأَرْضِهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: أَلَسْتَ بِأَرْضٍ مَضَبَّةٍ ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، قَالَ عُمَرُ: مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي بِالضِّبَابِ حُمْرَ النَّعَمِ
Translation
✧ A man was a shepherd and complained to ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb of hunger in his land. ʿUmar said to him: "Are you not in a land of dabb lizards?" He said: "Yes, O Commander of the Faithful." ʿUmar said: "I would not like to have red camels in exchange for dabb lizards."
