Translation
✧ We set out as pilgrims, and a man among us called Arbad b. ʿAbd Allāh made his mount trample a dabb lizard. We came to ask ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, and Arbad asked him. ʿUmar said to him: "Give a ruling for it." He said: You are better than I and more knowledgeable. He said: "I only commanded you to give a ruling." He said: I said: For it a kid that has gathered water and herbage. He said: "Then for it is that." He said: And we came upon snakes in the sand while we were in iḥrām, and we asked ʿUmar about them. He said: "They are an enemy; kill them wherever you find them."
