عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: الْمُجَاوِرُ بِبَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ يَجْلِسُ تَحْتَ ظُلَّةٍ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ "، قُلْتُ: فَهُوَ تَحْتَ سَقْفٍ، قَالَ: " إِنَّ الْمَسْجِدَ لَيْسَ كَشَيْءٍ "، قَالَ إِنْسَانٌ: فَإِنْ ذَهَبَ الْخَلَاءَ ؟ قَالَ: فِي الْجِبَالِ وَفِي الصُّعُدَاتِ، قُلْتُ: مُجَاوِرٌ فِي جَوْفِ الْمَسْجِدِ أَيَجْعَلُ فُسْطَاطَهُ بِبَابِهِ لِحَاجَتِهِ إِنْ شَاءَ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ "، قُلْتُ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ ذَهَبَ الْخَلَاءَ أَيَمُرُّ تَحْتَ سَقْفٍ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا "، قُلْتُ: أَفَيَمُرُّ تَحْتَ قَبْوٍ مَقْبُوٍّ، أَوْ حِجَارَةٍ، وَلَيْسَ فِيهِ عَتَبٌ، وَلَا خَشَبٌ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ

Translation

✧ I said to ʿAṭāʾ: The one staying near the door of the mosque, may he sit under a canopy? He said: "Yes." I said: Is he then under a roof? He said: "The mosque is not like anything." A person said: What if he goes to relieve himself? He said: "In the mountains and on the elevations." I said: A person staying in the middle of the mosque, may he set up his tent at its door for his needs if he wishes? He said: "Yes." I said: Have you considered, if he goes to relieve himself, may he pass under a roof? He said: "No." I said: May he pass under an arched vault, or stones, with no threshold in it and no wood? He said: "Yes."
